Re: HELP: WHAT DOES MY NAME MEAN?

My family comes from the Manor of BERE at Swingfield, just outside DOVER, Kent. The origin of the name here is from the Anglo-Saxon meaning "a sheltered place".

The site of the old manor house is now occupied by Bere Farm, just behind the Swingate Inn on the Dover-Deal road.

If you stand on the cliff road behind Dover Castle and look across towards the Deal road, the whole of Bere Farm is hidden from view in a hollow.
