Hello Robert, how are you? It's obviously 'donkeys years' since we met and I trust you and the family are all well. You will see from the email below that I have sent Gillian Cope some information on the Beer family history. Dad passed all the paperwork over to me and asked me if I would have a look at it. You will see that it makes interesting reading and I am sure Gill will be pleased with result. If you would like to know a bit more yourself about the line from James Beer then let me know and I will get back to you. I should point out though that I only have a slight interest in all this, but I do have some paperwork that Auntie Lily and dad's cousin Graham Beer have gathered, so it won't be any problem to let you have details or copies. Here from you soon, Brian ---------- From: Brian Beer[SMTP:brian.beer@btinternet.com] Sent: 27 February 2000 14:38 To: 'gillcope@hotmail.com' Subject: Beer Family History Hello Gillian, I understand you are trying to find out more about your Beer ancestors. My cousin Robert mentioned his uncle Leslie Beer (my father) in an email to you recently, and that he was interested in the Beer family history. Well my dad isn't that interested really, but he does have copies of some research that has been done by a couple of other members of the family. Dad has asked me if I would look at the papers to see if there are any connections between our families and to let you know the outcome. I am only too pleased to help and the good news is I think you will be pleased with what I've found. It appears that your GG grandfather Thomas Beer was the brother of my GGGG grandfather James Beer. Thomas was born in 1776 and James in 1774. They had two brothers, John (b 1766, but died 2 years later), Emanuel (b 1772), and two sisters, Catherine (b 1768) and Petternel (b 1770). Thomas married Joan Whitfield (obviously your Joan Whitefield, but which name is correct I wouldn't know) in 1801. My records show they had 8 children altogether: James (b 1802); John (b 1804 but died 1805); John Whitfield (b 1808); Thomas (b 1810); Emanuel (b1813 - I presume he died young); Martha (b1815); Emanuel (b1818); and Catherine (b 1821 (1822?)). Thomas was drowned in a storm in 1821 (presumably at sea) and was buried in Clovelly on October 7th 1821. I think this information comes from a book 'Down Along A Cobbled Street' (The History of Clovelly) written by Sheila Ellis. The book mentions quite a few Beers. Unfortunately I know nothing more about the book and have never seen it myself (nor has my father). I have no more information about your G grandmother Catherine or any of the descendants as this is where our family lines branched. However I can tell you about a couple more generations of ancestors:- Thomas' parents were Thomas (b 1733) and Grace Beer (I think she may have been a cousin). I have no birth date for Grace but she died in 1783. They were married in 1765. Thomas' parents (1733 Thomas that is!) were Thomas (yes, another one) and Petternel Bryant. They were married in 1731. They had 4 other children: James (b 1735); Emanuel (b 1737, d 1742); John (b 1740, d 1768); and Emanuel (b1743). My records show nothing more about them, and that's where the line history ends I'm afraid. All of the other information I have relates to my ancestors from James Beer down until today. I won't bore you with the details (not at this stage anyway). I'm sure you will find this information interesting. If you have any questions then let me know. Unfortunately I think I have told you all I've got on your side of the family. Has anyone else contacted you from your searches? Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards, Brian Beer
