Canandaigua is in Ontario County, you are correct (in fact it is the county seat). I may have mentioned that my wife's Beeman ancestors were from Canandaigua and when I was researching the Beeman families of Ontario County, I was able to place all of them (and there are quite a few) , except for this one (yours I believe) Moses Beeman, in the lines descended from Thomas Beeman of Kent, Litchfield Co., CT (and prior to that Preston/Voluntown/Stonington area of New London Co., CT). Beeman Street in Canandaigua is named for Henry Clay Beeman, who was the City of Canandaigua's first police chief. His portrait hangs in the Canandaigua jail house. It appears that your Moses Beeman was just "passing through" before heading to Michigan (my wife has other lines of ancestry, other than Beeman, that did the same). Inceidently, a lot of families from Canandaigua did migrate to Michigan when that territory opened up for settlement. Last summer I visited the Canandaigua Historical Society, and when speaking to a woman who worked there, I mentioned this, and she came back saying that the Historical Society gets more inquires with regards to ancestors, from people in Michigan than from any other state.
