Henry Beedle, in his will (1674) leaves to his dau. "Sophia at 21 or marriage two tracts of land in Talbot Co., obtained from his father-in-law William Coursey." William Coursey (d 1685) m Elizabeth (N) widow of (N) Beedle and mother of Henry Beedle. Henry Beedle (step-son of William Coursey) m. Sophia Ewen (widow of Richard Wells)by 1675. Henry Beedle predeceased his step-father, and subsequently William Coursey was the guardian of Henry Beedle's dau., named Sophia Beedle (after her mother). This Sophia Beedle m. Ignatius Craycroft Henry's sister was Anne Beedle (not Mary)... Colonial Families of Maryland CD 184, Anne Arundel Gentry, Vol. 2, p. 507 "John Wells, son of Richard and Frances Wells, was born in Virginia and brought by his parents to Maryland in 1653. The inheritance from his father in 1667 was "Lankford's Neck" of 1500 acres on Kent Isle. He settled on his inheritance which bordered Chester River. By August 1671, he was betrothed to ANNE BEEDLE, daughter-in-law (by this they mean step-daughter) to WILLIAM COURSEY and sister to Henry Beedle. A pre-nuptial agreement was made with William Coursey and Henry Beetle whereas "for consideration of a marriage by God's Grace... shortly betwix John Wells and Anne Beedle daughter-in-law to William Coursey and sister to Henry Beedle" in order that Anne be protected sufficiently if she should survive John Wells, the said John Wells assigned her negro Bennett, one third of all cattle and horses, sufficient household furniture to furnish a room also her choice of 500 acres of "Lanford's Neck" whereon John Wells dwelt and at her decease the property was to descend to the heirs of the body of John Wells and Anne Beedle. At the same court held in August 1671, Robert Smith requested that Mr. William Coursey "acknowledge for me in court the agreement that maid with Mr. John Wells for my grandchild Ann Walters which is as this, that she live with him from ye 16th day of May last until she has Sixteenth years. She being about 8 years old". (I have NO idea how this fits in) By July 1674, the wife of John Wells was Mary - - - , when she waived dower rights on his conveyance of "Benjamin's Choice". She was Mary, the daughter of Lewis Blangy of Kent County. (MARY WAS JOHN WELL'S SECOND WIFE, AND SHE WAS THE DAU. OF LEWIS BLANGY, NOT A BEEDLE) The will of John Craycroft of PG Co. probated 1721 names "brother Ignatius Craycroft" as one of his overseers... Ignatius is also a test to the will. John Craycroft also names son Clement, son John and wife Jane. I cannot find a will for Ignatius Craycroft, nor any probate records that mention Sophia Craycroft.
