I am just noticing this post and wanted to add some details that we have heard since this post. First, there were some children from Joshua that were not from his wife Amanda, but were born about the same time. He had at least a Billy (William Evans) Beech that was born around 1871 (date calculated fromm Parchman Prison records), which was while he was still married to Amanda.
There are also stories of rainwaters being part of the family, but nothing specific. As an example, one of the older ladies remembers going to one of the Rainwater's houses and asked how they were related. She was told "don't worry about it..." and ended the conversation.
I have other details and rumors, but some of it is not verified. Of the things that are verified, Joshua married Amanda Williams first and had 4 children. He fathered Billy Evans Beech around the same time. He later married Mary Beech but we don't see any children, then married Mary Evans early 1900s.
