My great great grandfather Lathrop W. Beebe traveled by covered wagon to Kansas the fall of 1885 and stayed over the winter returning to Barron Co Wisconsin in May 1886. The family story is that the winter was very hard, they almost starved to death and had outlaw problems. He died a few weeks after returning. He went with his son in law Charles Hanson and his family. When asked why they returned the 4 year old Rick Hanson said "couldn't get no food in Kansas!"
