I am seeking more information on the parentage and ancestry of Samuel Clark Beebe who was born either in CT or NY in 1811 to John Beebe and Lydia Palmer (according to the IGI). One entry on the IGI specifically gives his birthplace as Delaware Co, Thompkins on Sept 10, 1811. Samuel Clark Beebe's widow, Currance and children are in the 1850 and 60 census of Porter Co, Indiana. I know that some of the Lyme, CT. Beebes moved to Susquehanna and Luzerne Counties in PA...and back and forth from there with Broome and Delaware Counties in NY. These Beebes were the descedants to Gideon Beebe and Ruth Clark....i.e....sons, Clark, Timothy and Gideon. Other children they had were Samuel,Ezra, Ruth and Lois , born from 1860s to 1870s, according to the IGI. So, apparently the middle name of Samuel Clark Beebe b 1811 must/could have come from this family group. Can anyone tell me who John, supposed father of Samuel Clark Beebe b 1811, is associated with for parents? Also, if anyone has researched this group...have they found Timothy (shown above) in the 1810 census. I've tried all the spelling variations I could think of without finding him. He was in PA in 1800 and by 1820 in NY. But...where was he in 1810? Unless I'm missing a spelling possibility ....does anyone know if he possibly moved briefly to Ohio...say...Trumbull Co? Those census records were lost/destroyed in the War of 1812 and anytime I can't find a census record out that way, it becomes suspect for some of the lost records due to the war. Another Beebe name who appears in Porter Co, Indiana and Lake Co, Indiana...that of Isaiah in 1840 Lake Co who married there in the late 1830s. There are several apparently orphaned Beebe children in the 1850 and 1860 census of Porter Co who I suspect might be Isaiah's children but don't know for sure. One of them, Marietta, appears in the 1860 household of John Bissell, early Porter Co pioneer, son of William Bissell,(early surveyor of the Western Reserve of Ohio ) of Trumbull Co , Ohio. It was finding Marietta Beebe age 15 b IN in the household of John Bissell, the half brother of my gg grandfather, Pierce B. Bissell, which has our interest. We are looking for the name of the mother of Pierce B. Bissell and his sister, Mary Ann Bissell. We know that William Bissell moved to Porter Co, IN with wife, Sarah Corey Bissell and kids. But, Sarah had to be his second wife, because he obviously had two older children, Pierce B. 1817 and Mary Ann 1815, who could not have been Sarah's, as she was a child herself when they were born and their births predated William and Sarah's marriage by about 12-14 years. Gideon Beebe (son of Clark and Patience) who moved to Susquehanna, PA had a daughter, Nancy, who married Stephen Richardson, brother in law of Titus Bronson, founder of Kalamazoo, MI. The Richardsons and Bronsons then moved to Rock Island Co, ILLinois where Pierce B. Bissell bought land in the same section on the same day as Stephen Richardson. In addition, the Stephen Richardson 1840 household has an extra male of the right age to be Pierce B. Bissell. Pierce bought and sold land with Stephen Richardson as well. Also, Pierce married a Sarah Von Boskirk (also of Luzerne Co, PA....who happened to live in Scott Co,Iowa where the Bronsons had moved , across the river from Rock Island, IL. Pierce B. Bissell shows in one census he was born in PA and another in MI...the former probably the accurate one, but MI was a clue as to where he had come from prior to getting to Illinois. His sister, Mary Ann married a Henry Kimball Stevens in Kalamazoo Co, MI, Brady Twp by the same minister who married the Richardsons. We believe that either Nancy Beebe Richardson could have been Pierce's aunt...OR....that Nancy was a first cousin to Pierce and Mary Ann's mother. Some additional info from an obit for Mary Ann Bissell Stevens says that she was ~of~ Wilkes Barre, born in Erie, PA and a native of Ohio. (the birth in Erie, PA may be in error....we've found nothing there to suggest that is a place of interest...it may have been an error by the people writing the obit). Her parents were both born in CT as shown in the 1880 census. Further info says she was a niece of the Gov of Illinois (also a William Bissell) but this isn't possible proved by other research. Obviously, that was wishful thinking by the family atthe time of her death...and they misconstrued one William for another. The gov was actually a cousin however. Her father, William Bissell, was definately born in CT. So...we're looking for a daughter of Gideon Beebe and Delina Rogers who might have married William Bissell (PA marriage licenses were not required before the 1880s) or a daughter of one of Gideon's brothers who might have married William Bissell. Timothy sticks out as a possibility, since he doesn't appear in the 1810 census of PA where Gideon and Clark were. There were two other brothers...Samuel and Ezra who I don't know anything about. Was John...father of Samuel Clark Beebe (b 1811) the son of one of the Beebe boys of Luzerne and Susquehanna PA? ...Timothy or Clark? I don't think he was a son of Gideon...we have those boys already. I'm sorry for the very long post...but after years of research, like most family histories, nothing is usually that simple. We just found the paternal Bissell line for Pierce B. and found his sister (previously unknown he even had one) about 4 years ago after over 25 years of searching by several people. In order to understand the reason for my request for help...it's necessary to lay out the reason for our suspicions and why we need the information. Was Pierce B. Bissell...Pierce Beebe Bissell? Any additional information that anyone can give to shed light on this search process would be most welcome. Even the smallest tidbit could answer a lot of questions. If this brings up questions for anyone, please contact me. I'd be glad to discuss any of it regarding the Bissell or Beebe or Bronson connections. Thanks for reading this.
