IN County Tyrone, Ireland, John O'NEILL was known as John O'NEILL the STOUT. That family also went by the name of STOUT. Brothers had different surnames. This is documented in the history of The O'Neill's in that area. That explains how our O'Neill has had 10 matches now to Stouts, and one to Elizabeth Bee. The O'Neill was in County Tyrone as late as the middle 1800's. Apparently some took the name STOUT when they came to America. We match 10 times more Stouts than we do the one O'Neill, so far. Some markers mutate as time goes by. The 390 marker on our O'Neal,( how my grandfather was taught to spell it by his first grade teacher), is 23, which shows up much less than others. That narrows it more. It is said the 23 is indicative of Celtics in Northern Ireland. In 40 years this is as close as we have gotten. At least we know for sure the area of Ireland.
