Elisha Bedsaul is the earliest ancestor I've been able to trace. Other researchers have told me the name was originally Birdsall or Burdsall, and were Quakers out of either PA or DE. I have not done any real research to document this, but suspect it may be true. Elisha was originally a Quaker who lived in the Quaker settlement in NC. His son John's birth is recorded in the Quaker records. Many of the other NC Quakers, including some related to the Bedsauls by marriage, came from NJ via PA and the Valley of Virginia.
