Hi Beverly,

I have a Thomas Turner m Mary Hicks both born about 1720-1725 in Isle of Wright, VA and have generations of kids the first of whom moved to Washington and Bulloch Co's GA and some stayed in Bertie, NC. I dont know if this helps. Also, look in this gen forum for a posting that talks about the Bedgood Name. It is very interesting and gives some insight on where the name might have come from! I understand from some of my research, that after emancipation, many slaves would take the surname of someone who they felt connected with in a positive way instead of their "masters" names, if they didnt like their masters. It is so strange to me to think about this time in history, and ponder on "why anyone would like their master", how could you really, after being someones property. So absurd. Anyway, I hope that helps. My great granma was Bidgood and I have back to John, the first settler to GA of that name. You can check the Fed Census and the State Census online to look up names and maybe come up with more. Good luck.

Kelly
