Hi Tracy,
I believe that the John Simmons, son of Daniel Simmons, you found was my gg grandfather. The birth year is identical. If it was him, his full name was John Jefferson Simmons and he was born September 1, 1807.He married Anna H.M. on May 16, 1829. (I've gone nuts trying to find out what H.M. stands for.)
They had 13 children.John left North Carolina and moved to Fayettville, Lincoln County, Tennessee either shortly after marriage, or they was married there.Their oldest child was John Thomas and he was born in Fayettville September 26, 1830.
From Fayettville the family moved to Limestone County, Alabama. And from there they went to a place called Cherokee Crossing (later renamed Augusta) on White River in Arkansas. They arrived there sometimes in 1848.John got a land patent of 40 acres. That original 40 acres was to remain in the family until a few years ago.
I have the line of John J. Simmons pretty well mapped out. What I would really like is some verification that my John J. Simmons is the son of Daniel. If that's true then the JCNC cousins pretty much have the family back to Bern, Switzerland.
I'm very excited about this.My older brother passed away this past April, and He was doing almost all the leg work on our family tree.Just about all I have came from his labors. We had reached a block when it came to going back further than John J.Now, I hope, and pray, that there's light at the end of the tunnel.
It is now my dream, and hope, to take a trip to Jones County NC and maybe stomp along the Trent River where my ancestors settled in this country.
Jim Simmons
