Hi Ruth, I don't have much more information on George, he is my 4th great grandfather by his daughter Elizabeth. George and Harriet do appear in the 1861 Census of Canada in Toronto Twp., Peel, Ontario. and I always assumed that He an Harriet died after 1861 as I can find no trace of them after. George dying in 1869 would explain the lack of a death registration as 1869 was the first year for compulsory registration of Births Deaths and Marriages in Ontario and the records are spotty at best for a few years. Elizabeth married Thomas Elgie on 22 Aug 1850 in Sprinfield (now Erindale), Peel County, Canada West at St. Peter's Anglican Church. I don't have the wedding certificate but will try to obtain it. It is probably with the Diocese of Toronto as I believe that St. Peter's was part of that Diocese but the boundaries did change depending on the years. My understanding is that Elizabeth's family were members of St. Peters so it is likely that he and Harriet are buried there. I also remember finding a reference to George as holding a position with the Customs and Excise for Upper Canada but I will have to dig that one up Regards, Bruce Notify Administrator about this message?
