Hello, My husband is descended from Samuel Beckwith and Adelaide Lebrun. I was recently able to find information about Adelaide's father, Jean-Baptiste Lebrun de Duplessis, who was, not surprisingly, French. He was a rather interesting character, to say the least. The sources I found were the Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online Volume 5 and the Proceedings and Transactions of the Royal Society of Canada, 2nd series, volume VI, meeting of May 1900. I summarized what was in the articles and what I could understand (I could only find the Proceedings article in French) on the Lebrun Genforum. Basically it said that Jean-Baptiste Lebrun was born in Corbie, Picardy, France ca. 1739 (some say 1730). His parents were Jean-Baptiste Lebrun de Duplessis and Marie Champigny. Jean-Baptiste m. Catherine Methot in Quebec in 1762 and they had nine children, one of whom was Adelaide who married Samuel Beckwith. The article also noted that Adelaide's sister, Julie-Louise, married Nehemiah Beckwith, Samuel's brother. The article also mentioned that the Beckwiths were shipbuilders. I realized that although I had the Beckwith lineage recorded somewhere, I did not know much about them. I would like to hear from anyone descended from this family or other lines of the same Beckwith family. My husband is descended from Adelaide's son James Farnsworth Beckwith and I believe James had some siblings including George LeBrun Beckwith who is mentioned in another posting on this genforum. Thank you. Charlene Notify Administrator about this message?
