Beckwith, son of Joel and Charlotte Beckwith was born September 2, 1863 in Pana, Christian Co., IL and died June 10, 1956 in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana (buried Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute). John married Nellie Austermiller on February 7, 1901 in Vigo County, Indiana. John and Nellie had 2 children, Marion A. (Beckwith) Lemaire and Richard Ladd Beckwith.
