I would desparately like to hear from anyone who has definitive information about the parents and grandparents of Richard Ransom Beckwith, b. 1800 - I'm not sure of his birthplace. The infamous book by Paul Beckwith assigns the Richard born in 1800 to a Richard born in Watertown, Ct. 1777 - and he the son of Silas Beckwith, b 1746 in Lyme, CT. None of this seems to be born out by the more legitimate sources I've been able to find. The the only source I have that points me to Richard Jr as an ancestor is the Joyce Tice site/Sullivan-Rutland Genealogy Project. Her information seems to be straight out of the Paul Beckwith book. What I do know is that my grandmother is in posession of a family Bible that was owned by "Arvilla (White) Harr," wife of Simon S. Harr. There are a number of births, deaths, and marriages recorded in this Bible, and one of them is the marriage of Simon and Arvilla's daughter, Mary to David Beckwith. The Joyce Tice site names this David Beckwith, born Dec 14, 1838, as a son of Richard Ransom Beckwith, Jr. and his wife Sarah (?). I also know for certain (from my grandmother, her Bible, and family stories) that David Beckwith and Mary Harr had a daughter (2nd of the name - the first one died as a young child and was buried "near the tree where she liked to play") named Anna Elizabeth Beckwith, b. 1878. This Anna Elizabeth Beckwith married Henry Terwilliger in January 1899, and their daughter Mildred was my great-grandmother. If anyone can point me to Richard Ransom Beckwith, Jr. as being the certain parent of David Beckwith, and to additional information on Richard Jr.'s ancestry, I would be deeply indebted! Thank you!
