Matthew and Casper

I've been intrigued by the mystery of how and exactly when Matthew Beckwith arrived in Connecticut. I understand the first official mention of him is from Hartford in 1639. I have also been intrigued by the mention, on this forum, of his inclusion in the estate of a Dutch ? sea captain by the name of Casper Varlet who apparently died in Hartford. I've tried researching Casper Varlet to see when he came to the US and what boat he arrived on. All I've found is a possible birthdate of 1590 which makes him Matthew's senior by about 20 years (as best we know assuming Matthew's birthdate was about 1610.)
Does anyone know more about him? Could have Matthew hitched a ride on a dutch boat to the US?
Thanks for any insights.

David G. Beckwith
