The Morton family does not connect with the Sir Roger Beckwith family. It does connect with the family of Marmaduke Beckwith and his wife, Maudlin Creed.Their daughter, Elizabeth, was married three times: first to Joseph Morton, by whom she had five daughters and one son, William; second to Francis Hogwood, her first cousin-his mother was Elizabeth Creed, sister to Maudlin, third to Edward Oliver.
This is for Marmaduke Beckwith, husband of Maudlin Creed. He was imported into Virginia by Howell Pryse prior to 6 Jun 1664. This from Charles City County Court orders 1664-1665, p. 320. Marmadule m. Maudlin Creed, daughter of Raphael/Ralph Creed and his wife Grace. Marmadule was not a good manager and sort of disappeared from the record books in 1667 when he sold Arthur Allen all his live stock, household goods, and all the rest of his estate in a debt to Arthur Allen of 2400 lbs of tobacco; witnessed by Robert Spenser and Ed Bushell. Maudlin Creed Beckwith m. (2) Edward Oliver, and (3) John Warren. All her children were by Beckwith. Information from Dr. R. F. Wicker, Jr.
