Re: BECKWITH, Matthew, first line in America.
Very much appreciated your followup to my message.Had to look over the papers sent to me from my Beckwith grandfather.I found that I was wrong--your George b. 1828 wasn't in my line.I knew there was a problem when you noted his father as Abel. Here is my line:g grandfather Townsend C. b. 1863, his f. Townsend A. was b. 1824 and he had a bro. named George but their parents were Albert Alonzo Beckwith b. 1800 and Hannah Griswold b. 1799 (REFN: 901/1337).Albert d. in Elmira, Chemung, NY. and his f. was Richard b. 1776 son of Silas b.1746 son of Benjamin b. 1706 son of Jonah, Matthew 2, Matthew 1.My gg. father left NYC settling in Wyo. in 1887owning a lumber company there several years. Really know little about the Beckwith lineage beyond Wyo.Hoped to learn just where Matthew 1 came from--seems to be a conflict in the forum and I had noticed that V. Huntley had stated that there was no true info. regarding his parentage and neither was there info. on just where he had came from--something about possible Dutch capt. bringing him here...Are we talking about the same Matthew then and if so was he b. 1612, not 1610? Thank you Dale.
Sincerely Stephanie
