My Beckwith lineage can be traced to a James Harris Beckwith (1814-1891), my gg Grandfather, who married a lady named Elizabeth McGougan in New Brunswick in 1838. He farmed for a time on Prince Edward Island before he and most of his sons settled in Northern Maine where I was born. His parents are unknown and I can find no record of his birth. I suspect he is descended from the Planter Beckwiths who emmigrated to Nova Scotia around 1760. Quite possibly his father was a son of Worden Beckwith and Martha Steadman. The names Steadman and Chipman occur often in our family among the male members.
