Please be aware that there are several branches of the Beckton-Becton family which are African-American. We were were free, former slaves and some did not get their freedom until 1865 Emanicipation Proclamation.
This family name is so rare,if you are black and have this name you are usually related to the AA Becktons or if not, the White Becktons!!!
I have research with the the AA's original Beckton family living in North Carolina. The nationality of these people I am not sure of beyond the fact that they were white slaveowners. Nevertheless, I am researching the African-American Becktons and wish to hear from all who have some information. thank you. jmb
