I am descended from Benjamin Beckner, through my father's mother's side. The Beckners have indeed been living in Cleburne, Texas, for many years. My father and his brother were born there. To be best of my knowledge, it's been quite a few years, there are still some family left there.
They were raised Baptist. No one's Jewish. Not to my knowledge.
Benjamin is buried in the old part of the cemetery in Mansfield, Texas. Mansfield is somewhat confusing. The town lies within two different counties.
Some years ago, the ladies of the town made a collection of old gravestones. Benjamin was listed. I consulted the local undertaker to see if he could tell me where the grave was located. He was not too confident that it was still there. However, when we arrived, it most certainly was.
His grave is marked with a beautiful white marble gravestone. It was covered with lichen. The undertaker instructed me how to clean it off with bleach and steel wool. I came back a few days later with some Beckner kin from Cleburne. The gravestone looked beautiful when we got finished cleaning it up. Very nice grains throughout the marble. The writing is very legible. Perhaps it was helpful that the lichen was on it! We made multiple rubbings of the headstone.
Other descendants of Benjamin are located in Cleburne. Quite a few of them are in the "confederate" section of the cemetery. I don't have the names with me at the moment, but my grandmother, Jessica Bernice nee Beckner Cox, was a member of the UDC. She traced through her Beckner lineage.
I appreciate the information on Benjamin's wife. I had no record of her.
I do have copies of some correspondence sent to Ben from Beckner relations living in Greeley, Iowa. They were always praying for his immortal soul. I can only attribute this to the fact that he was a mason. His gravestone contains the masonic emblem on it. I also believe from census records that a granddaughter lived with him for some time. I have no information on who she was or why she was living with him.
