William Beckmann Family
Posted by: Billy F. Beckman (ID *****4389) Date: September 22, 2003 at 20:38:40

Trying to locate the family of William Beckmann. William was born 1840 in Saxony, Germany. William said that he came from Saxony to Galveston, Texas. We do not know the name of his parents. In the Spring of 1862, William joined the 2nd Texas Co. F. in Galveston. William was wounded at Shiloh and taken prisoner and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio. Later exchanged and sent to Quitman, Miss. to the 2nd Texas Hospital that was located there. When recovered from his wounds, William was assigned to the 6th Texas Cavalry. After the war he came back to Quitman, Miss. and married a widow with three children. At different times he would go back to Texas to visit his folks. Any information is appreciated.

P.S. There was a August Beckman in the 2nd Texas also. May have been related.

Billy F.Beckman
