Martin Bernard and Mary Frances (Reiss) changed the spelling of their surname Baechle to Beckley about 1900. According to recently located cousins, they filed a document at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Louisville, Ky. With this new surname spelling BAECHLE, I have connected with another genealogist who has much documentation for this Baechle/Beckley family going back to Germany. Because we have confirmed the emmigration of our Baechle/Beckley ancestors from Germany, we know they are not part of the Alfred G. Beckley families who settled in Louisville, Kentucky along with the infamous Daniel Boone families. Therefore, my Baechle/Beckley ancestors are also NOT part of the Beckleys who are founders of Beckley, West Virginia.
Martin B. Baechle/Beckley's parents are buried in St. Michael's Cemetery in Louisville, KY. I have plans of visiting and documenting their grave sites later this year.
I continue to search for family connected to Mary Frances (Reiss) Baechle/Beckley's 2nd husband, Nathan Thomas Pay. If you have anything you can share with me to help me on my search, please contact me. - Marilyn
