I am interested in the Beckleys who were in Washington Co., MD around 1800. Specifically I have found in the 1800 census Henry; Henry, Jr.; and Jacob in Funkstown, Washington Co., MD and John Beckley in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD. My interest is that there has been some speculation among Binkley researchers that some of these Beckleys might have actually been Binkleys and the name corrupted by the census takers. This is reinforced by the fact that there are several interactions between the Beckleys and Binkleys. And in one case a will that seems to be for a Henry Beckley is indexed as Henry Binkley. Can anybody account for the Beckleys in Washington Co., MD in this time frame to help me eliminate them from further consideration as Binkleys? Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
