Helllo;
I am looking for information on my family tree. My grandfather was Paul Davis Beckley of Prichard, wayne co., wv. b. 1905 d. 1978 My gr. gfather was John Henry Beckley of Wayne co. WV ...b---d. 1936 my grandpa told me his (j.h. b., above) father was GEORGE WASHINGTON BECKLEY,..a circuit riding school teacher, lived [at least sometimes] in Wayne co WV at Prichard, WV....died in Johnstown , Pa flood..[gr.pa thot.]
NOW, gr.pa said G W B sometimes referred to a "GENERAL BECKLEY"......[ALFRED?] as being his brother........but gr. pa didn't know much more than this vague reference. He did not know the name of G W B"s father either.
In the 1870 [1860?] census it says that one of alfred's son's [?] was in prichard also. his name was NEVILLE BECKLEY, census says he was a preacher man. so this is a indication that NEVILLE B mite be kin to GEORGE WASHINGTON BECKLEY, AND THUS gwb mite be kin to GENERAL ALFRED BECKLEY. ?????????
I DON'T KNOW. Have you run across gwb or jhb in your research? .... or any other Wayne Co. WV Beckley's'????
In the 1870 [?} census there is also listed 2 more beckley's in prichard, wv......which my family [who still lives in/near prichard,wv]........has no memories of...they are 1] HUTH BECKLEY 2] HETTIE [FEMALE] BECKLEY.
........DO YOU know who they are?
Any help will be appreciated by me. I can not find out from anyone who G. G. gr pa GEORGE WASHINGTON BECKLEY'S parents or siblings are,.....so far.
