John "Jack" BECKHAM, I. #3567 b. 1741, VA, Church: American Rev., Occupation Horse Trainer, Scout,,[xix] m. 12-Aug-1761, in Granville Co., NC,[xx] Elizabeth "Betty" "Libby' HENDERSON #3568, b. 19-Feb-1738, Hanover Co., VA,[xxi] d. 17-Aug-1831, Santuck, Union Co., SC.20 John died abt. 1800, Santuck, SC,[xxii] Buried: Hodge Grave Yard, Union Dist., SC.[xxiii] Carole Williams on 21 May, 1998, wrote that John trained horses for Wade Hampton. John Beckham came from NC in 1774, was a hunter, trapper. Being a scout & spy during the Am. Rev., he suffered at the hands of the British & Tories who stole even the last quilt he had. After the war, the n'er-do-well trained horses for Gen. Wade Hampton, I. The expert horse trainer died before he could apply for a Rev. War pension leaving a widow & several daughters.
