Hi there
I am a Beckford and am researching the name I have gone only so far back to to 1816
But to the point where the name came from it was from a small village that was and still is based around a ford over a beck in the Gloucester are I have somewhewre a photo of the ford but it is so old that I at this moment cannot find it
And yes there was a Governor of Jamaica and one was also I believe 3 times Lotd mayor of London and the last I knew there was a statue of him in the London Guild Hall.
The furthest back at the moment that I go is to an Ezekial Beckford 1817 to 1893 married to a Hannah Day Born 1824
