Katie....Here is a great site which includes, among many other things, Texas deaths. You can see an image of the actual death certificate. When you find the individual names, click on the little black square to the left of the name to see the image.

It appears the Kabell family always lived in Austin County, TX. Perhaps checking with the courthouse there to see "if" they have adoption records might get results? Maybe check with them for guardianship records, too?
