Hi Jay, I don't think your Jacob could be a brother of my Jacob as there would be 35 years different in their ages. My Jacob was born 1815. The name Jacob Becker is like John Smith... very common. I checked the census and couldn't find any Jacob L Beckers. The one thing I do when I can't find someone and know they are from a certain area is go through the census page by page. I have found several people that have been left out of the index. Start with the 1850 as he would be three years old and with his parents. It takes a long time, but sometimes it pays off. Do you know when/where he died? Write town halls for death information. I believe after 1885 it was required to have a death certificate in NY. Some towns kept them before that. Towns also have listing of who is burried in their cemeteries. Also write churches in that area With his middle name Lawyer his mother's last name is probably Lawyer. I have seen that many times in my years researching. Check for a woman born around the 1820/1830's who married a Becker. It might give you some leads as where to look. Good luck, I still haven't confirmed my Jacob's parents yet and I have been working on them for 30 years now. Carolyn Notify Administrator about this message?
