Looking for any descendants of Sarah Emma Becker (Baker) or of her father Robert Becker (who was the son of Frederick Becker, whose family was on the 1850 St Louis City Census) There were from SAXONY ... sigh ... which can mean 3 places (circa 1850) 1. Koenigreich Sachsen (Kingdom of Saxony) 2. Sachsen und Land Anhalt ... a.k.a. Preussen Sachsen (Prussian Saxony) or 3. Koenigreich Hanover (which was also referred to as... NIEDERSACHSEN = Lower Saxony) I am inclined to believe NOW, that this family was probably from what is now called Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) .... because Robert Becker's sister in Jefferson County (her married name was Ida Sanguinetti *sp*) While Robert claimes "Saxony" ... at the same time, his sister claims "Hanover" (which would also be known as Lower Saxony ... even back then). Now she doesn't just claim that she was born in Hanover, she claims that her PARENTS were born in Hanover as well. At the Same time Robert Becker claims Parents place of birth as "Saxony". Bear in mind that in 1850 Neither the Kingdom of Saxony, nor the Kingdom of Hanover (Lower Saxony) were in Prussian hands at the time. repeat Koenigreich Hanover und Koenigreich Sachsen were NOT in Prussian hands by 1850 (they both fell later, after 1860 I believe). So, if this family were from Prussian Saxony, they have chosen to say that, and not just Saxony. Mike Singler (who use to post on here) had a civil war record that said something about Elberfeld which would have been Prussian Saxony (Sachsen und Land Anhalt) at the time they had immigrated here to the USA. Untill further proof, I can't accept that civil war record as being from or about our ancestor ... because ... Robert Becker is just too common of a name to make guesses like that. However, if that *IS* *OUR* Robert Becker, then, we have it! they would have been from Sachsen und Land Anhalt ... or... what was then (in 1850) known as Prussian Saxony, and therefore ... bingo! a provinz and a town!!! I could only wish that *that* Robert Becker was ours, but I can't prove it. Until further proof, my assumption is with "Hanover" and not Prussian Saxony. Somebody, Mike! please help! Lance T. Fallin .. from the Plattin Township, Jefferson County, Sarah Emma Becker group (daughter of Robert, Robert son of Frederick Becker) This family arrived in St Louis right before 1850, then later moved to Jefferson County.
