William Bebout, son of Jacob Bebout, moved to Iowa about 1860. He was a prominent settler along the river in Southwest Iowa and operated a ferry across the river to Nebraska. He and his wife also operated a hotel in the same Iowa village. This branch of the family kept the Bebout spelling, but other descendents of Jacob Bebout used the BEABOUT spelling.
