Betsey,

I, too, have a relative named John Bebout. However, the DOB i have is Aug. 25, 1729. The DOD of 1803 is the same as yours. I have little info/stories about these relatives. It is John's brother Peter who is my ancestor.
My info taken from a letter states John Bebout was the 1st Bebout born on this continent. He was the son of John and Mary Miller Bebout. It further states that John and his brother Peter both lived in NJ --John "near Vealtown, among the hills of Somerset Co." Both brothers were men of considerable influence in their communities and both enlisted in the Continential Army.

As for your stories-- they seem to fit the time and place. if you have more info I would be interested to hear from you.

Thank you,
L Bebout
