My great-grandmother was a Beabout. Grandpa (her son) always pronounced the name BEE-about. The first family member to use that spelling was Jacob Beabout, son of Benjamin Bebout of Cross Creek Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. I assume that Jacob changed the spelling to be closer to the way the family pronounced their name (but I have no proof of that).

I have been told that the original, Flemish pronunciation was close to BEE-bow (to rhyme with cow), but perhaps no one knows that for sure nowadays.
