William:Rigdon moved to Lawrence County from Lincoln County, TN where he showed up in the 1820 census. I descend from the "other" Lawrence County Beaver(s), William, who named his first-born son Rigdon.
I think that both my guy and yours were somehow connected to the Ridgon Beaver who moved from Chatham County, NC to Jefferson County, TN about 1800.These are some notes on your Rigdon and the elder one:
Rigdon BEAVERS in 1790 Fed census, Hillsborough Dist, Chatham Co. NC, 2 m 16+, 1 m -16, 7 females.
Rigdon BEAVERS owed debt to estate of Elizabeth KEITH, Jefferson Co., TN, 1805. [ar]
Rigdon BEAVERS 1820 census, Lincoln Co., TN; 1 0 0 1 0 0 -1 0 2 0 0.
Rigdon BEAVERS witnessed will of Robert McKAMEY in Lawrence Co, AL, 1825.
Rigdon BEAVERS 1840 census index, Lawrence Co., AL; pg. 200. [cscd]
Rigdon BEAVERS, rec'd patent for land in Lawrence Co., AL on 24 Dec 1834, assignee of George STEVENS. In 1850 Lawrence Co. Fed census with wife Glathy (maiden name unknown). There are a number of deeds to Rigdon, and from Rigdon and Glathy, sometimes property jointly owned with Alfred BEAVERS, perhaps a clue that he may have been a son.Glathy died that decade for Rigdon BEAVERS m. Elizabeth LOONEY on 11 Sep 1856 in Lawrence Co and they were both still living in 1870 Fed. census.
The first BEAVER(s) in Lawrence were:
William BEAVERS "of Lincoln County, TN" rec'd patent for land in Lawrence Co., AL Territory on 1 May 1818. In 1820 State census, Lawrence Co., AL, this William, or another of the same name was 1 white male 21+, living alone. In 1824, his land was assigned to Green K. HUBBARD; by 1854, it belonged to Alfred BEAVERS (this is all from Federal land records and is as clear as mud).
Michael BEAVERS of "Lawrence Co., AT" rec'd patent for land, Lawrence Co., AL on 29 Oct 1818.1820 State census, Lawrence Co., AL, pg 21, line 24, 1 white male 21+, 3 white males -21, 1 white female 21+, 2 white females -21; living next door to William BEAVERS. Witnessed will of Joseph POLLARD in 1824, was a Justice of the Peace same year. In 1827 assigned 1/2 of his land to Allen SMITH, 1/2 to State for river improvements.Does not appear in Lawrence Co. records again.
I cannot offer you any proof that your Sarah belonged to Rigdon but I know for sure she was not a child of my William and there was nobody else to whom she could have belonged.
I have a 25 year accumulation of theories about this family but very little in the way of proof. They aren't easy!
