I am researching the BIVANS family from Franklin County, Ohio, settling
in Polk County, Iowa. William and Mary Bivans moved from Franklin
County, Ohio, to Polk, Iowa in 1854. They had three sons: Henry, Joe,
and John "Jack". There are many gaps in this family tree. Would love to
hear from anyone who can help me put the leaves back on the branches!!!
It is believed that the name was originally Bivens or Bevans, but was
changed to BIVANS, so they would not be associated with, or confused
with, other Bivens or Bevans who were not related to their family. It is
assumed, therefore, that all BIVANS are related.
I have found no record of William or Mary prior to 1854, but assume
they were in Franklin County, Ohio, from 1830s to 1854, because my
2nd great-grandfather 'Jack' was born there in 1835.
Jack Bivans was married to Julia Hammer, January 1, 1855, and to them
were born twelve children. They are George, William, James, Thomas,
Jake, Amos, Mary Elizabeth, Emma Jane, John, Susanna, Albert and
Almon. George, James and Emma Jane died while young.
Thomas is my great-grandfather. He married Mary Ann Gaines, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Gaines, of Tassell (Tazwell) County, Illinois, on
August 20, 1888. To this union were born six children; John, Rhoda and
George, all of whom died in infancy; twin sons, Wilbur and Walter, and a
son Ira.
Walter is my grandfather.
William's family is believed to have originated in Wales. Would really like
to find some links to confirm this.
