I have encountered a 'brick wall" in trying to trace a part of my maternal line. My great great grandfather was Alfred Beaudry(Bodrey, Budrey) and he born in Canada East according to the marriage certificate for his first marriage. His father's name was Samuel according to that certificate. Alfred was 26 years old at the time of the marriage in January of 1865. he was married in Northampton, MA. There was no listing for his mother's name.

Twenty three years later Alfred married for a second time. At this time he was 47 according to the marriage certificate. His father's name again was listed as Samuel but this time there was a mother's name listed; Calcote Lafontaine.

Alfred died in 1919 in Holyoke, MA. His death certificate listed his parents names as Joseph Beaudry and Victoria Lafond. His age was listed as 81.

So, it appears that Alfred was born between 1838 and 1841 somewhere in present day Quebec province. Family history has it that he was born in St. Alexandre but I've no proof of that. Kind "listers' in the past have checked indexes such as the Loiselle index and the Drouin with no luck.

It seems most likely that Alfred's father was named Samuel as this appeared on both marriage certificates. Presumably he knew his father's name. I've not seen the name Calcote before and I wonder if it is a "female" name ?

I'd like to locate anyone doing research on the Beaudry family who may have come across a Samuel/ Calcote combination in their research. I'd also like any suggestions to assist in the tearing down of this "brick wall".
