I'm just not sure the records exist that would tell us why George didn't receive his inheritance. He married Sarah Higham "late of Blacker Hall" Sandal Parish, Yorkshire in 1663. I've been unable to learn anything about her family. Even if Alice B. didn't approve of her son's marriage I don't know whether that would have made a difference as far as his inheritance. As for the lawsuit brought by his widow you've probably seen GenForum postings 891 and 1100 from 2000. Your last posting seems to indicate that you are aware of everything that was in those two. I wish there were more documents to study but don't know of any.

I'm a little confused about your first sentence on page 2 "If Baron Thurland did buy John's land at Reigate...then Alice's land was sold and there should have been money for George's legacy." Are you implying that Thurland bought the land, changed his mind and then it was resold?

At least I can answer one of your questions. Thomas Beauchamp left his son John choice of land or a house in Sisam. A lady I corresponded with in Northamptonshire told me that Sisam is an old name for Syresham, which is in southern Northants. So - it isn't Sussex. Good thought though! I do have a copy of John's will.

I did a little writeup on the family and it can be accessed through www.lib.byu.edu/fhc/. It probably contains nothing which would be new to you. Type in "Beauchamp" and several come up - mine is #10.
