WILL OF ALICE DOGGETT Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury PCC Dogg, Quire No. 127, fols. 31-32 Public Record Office, The National Archives of the UK Dated 28 Aug 1699, proved 5 May 1703 (Transcribed from a copy of the will, but paragraphs and names in caps added for easier reading) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN Eight and twentieth day of August Anno Dm One thousand six hundred ninety nine and in the Eleveanth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord William the third by the Grace of God of England Scotland (…) and Ireland King Defender of the ffaith I ALICE DOGGETT WIDDOW late the WIFE OF JOHN DOGETT of London Esq. deceased being at present in good health of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory (Almighty God be praised) and considering the certainty of death and that the time thereof is most uncertaine Doe make and declare this my last Will and Testament as followeth (that is to say) Imprimis I commend my Soule into the hands of Almighty God hoping by his mercy through the (…) of my Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ and the assistance of the holy and blessed Spirit to have full and free pardon and remission of my all my Sins and to Enjoy Everlasting happiness in heaven And my body I comitt to the Earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and as touching such worldly estate as God hath blessed me withall in this Life I give and dispose thereof as followeth First I give and bequeath unto my Loveing Son-in-Law Mr JUSTUS OTGHER the sum of one hundred pounds for himselfe and also one hundred pounds for Mourning for himselfe and ffamily. Item I give and bequeath to my Son-in-Law Mr JUSTUS OTGHER the sum of Eighty pounds to be paid by him to my Daughter ALICE DEBARY for her separate use at such times and by such proportions as he shall see convenient. And I give unto him one hundred pounds more to pay her for Mourning and other expenses as he shall see cause. Item I give to my Maid Servant that shall be living with me at the time of my decease for Mourning. Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Mrs MARY WOOLSEY for Mourning Ten pounds and five pounds to MR ANGELL and to my SON JOHN DOGETT AND HIS WIFE twenty pounds for Mourning and to my SON BENJAMIN DOGETT twenty pounds for Mourning. Item I give all my household goods and wearing apparrell Linnen Jewells plate (…) Glass pewter and other household stuff whatsoever (except such part and share as I shall direct to be otherwise disposed of by any writing subscribed by me in the presence of Two Witnesses at the least) unto my said Son in Law JUSTUS OTGHER the rest and residue of my estate whatsoever (after payment and discharge of my debts funerall expense and after the legacies of money plate Jewells household stuff and other things before mentioned I will and appoint shall be divided into ffive parts whereof I give and bequeath unto my said Son in Law JUSTUS OTGER Upon Trust nevertheless that he the said JUSTUS OTHER shall first deduct five hundred pounds thereof which I have given my son JUSTUS OTGHER toward the advancing of his DAUGHTER KATHERINE which some time since marryed unto Mr. DAVID LONGENMANTLE and shall pay the residue and Interest and proffitts thereof and the rest and residue of the said Two Fifths parts to such other children which he had by my DAUGHTER ELIZABETH that shall be living at the time of my decease share and share alike to the Son or Sons at their respective ages of one and Twenty years and to the Daughter or Daughters at their like ages of one and twenty years or days of Marriage ffirst happening respectively And another ffifth part thereof I give and bequeath to my said Son-in-Law JUSTUS OTGHER Upon Trust nevertheless that the said JUSTUS OTGHER shall pay the same and Interest and proffits thereof to such person and persons for such use and uses only as my said DAUGHTER ALICE the Wife of DAVID DEBARY whether she be marryed or sole and alone without her husband shall by any writing under her hand to be by her subscribed in the presence of two or more reliable Witnesses from time to time direct and appoint and in case of no such direction or appointment by the said ALICE DEBARY then upon trust to pay the same or soe much thereof touching which not such Direction or appointment shall be given or made the said ALICE DEBARY as aforesaid from and after the decease of the said ALICE to such child or children of the said ALICE DEBARY as shall be living at the time of her decease share and share alike to the Son or Sons at their respective ages of one and twenty years and to the Daughter or Daughters at their like ages of one and twenty years or days of Marriage first happening respectively And one other fifth part I give to my SON JOHN DOGETT deducting thereof four hundred and sixty pounds formerly given him to buy a place and one hundred pounds since lent him for the better carry on his Trade of a Woodmonger and the sum of three stone pounds lately paid his creditors by his direction. And one other fifth part thereof I give and bequeath to my SON BENJAMIN DOGETT first deducting thereof two hundred pounds which I have formerly given him and one hundred pounds I have since lent him to cary on his Trade of Woodmonger and the sum of three stone pounds paid his Creditors by his Order And it is my further Will and mind that in case my said sons JOHN AND BENJAMIN or either of them shall not be content and satisfied with the Division that is made of my said late husband’s Estate at the Comon Serjant’s Office) in London and with such releases and discharges they or either of them have already before my decease shall give unto me and shall (any wayes) not molest or trouble mine Executor concerning the same that then he or they of my said sons that shall soe doe shall have no benefit or advantage of this my Will and in such case the part and share of him or them so (…) troubling or molesting mine Executor for the causes aforesaid shall be fforfeited by him or them and shall cause to mine Executor anything aforesaid to the contrary notwithstanding. Item it is my Will and mind that mine Executor hereinafter named shall be discharged and indemnified of and from all such Losses and damages as may happen in and about my Executor of my Will by bad debts (all titled?) Losses (insecurityed?) taken by them. And that all such costs charges and damages as shall sustaine or be put unto by means of his being Executor hereof or Intermedling in or about the premisses shall be bourne out of my Estate. And Lastly I make name ordaine and appoint my said Loveing Son in Law JUSTUS OTGHER to be my full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament not doubting of his paines and care to be taken therein hereby revokeing all former Wills by me heretofore made and appointing this onely to stand and be as and for my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said ALICE DOGETT the Testatrix have caused two parts of this my Last Will and Testament both of one tenour to be made and for every Sheet therefore each part containing Seaven Sheets and a halfe have set my hand and seal to each sheet thereof and also at the Topp where they are all first together and also a little below the halfe of the last sheet of each part thereof the day and year in the first part of each sheet thereof first written.
