Dear Beauchamp Researchers:

John Sanders Beauchamp was born on May 26, 1846 at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri, and his wife Harriett M. "Hattie" McPheeters was born on April 18, 1850 in Kentucky. John and Harriett were married on March 16, 1872 in Missouri. Harriett's parents William C. McPheeters ( born on Jan. 25, 1823 in Kentucky ) and Malvina Augusta Trabue were married in Kentucky on April 23, 1849.

The 1900 Federal Census shows that "Harrietta" M. Beauchamp ( Michigan, Valley County, Nebraska ) had 8 children, with 6 still living. Subject to further research and verification, at this time I believe these 8 children were as follows:

(1) Allan ( "Allen" ) A. - Born in MO on April 17, 1874.

(2) Leroy - Born in MO in April 1876.

(3) Bessie - Born in MO in May 1878.

(4) Augusta ( "Gussie" ) - Born in MO in Dec. 1880.

(5) Ray

(6) John O. - Born in Nebraska about 1885.

(7) Owen - Born in Nebraska in July 1886.

(8) Edward - Born in Nebraska in Sept. 1891.

So far as is known at this time, John Sanders Beauchamp was born at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri, and he remained there until at least 1880, since he is still found there in the 1880 Federal Census. Since his son John O. Beauchamp was born in Nebraska about 1885, it appears that John Sanders Beauchamp moved ( with most of his family ) to Nebraska sometime between 1880 and 1885. According to the "Nebraska State Gazetteer" ( 1890 ) ( in the gazetteer see: "Business Directory and Farmer List for 1890-1891" ), there is a "John S. Beauchamp" listed as residing at Elyria, Valley County, Nebraska.

In the 1900 Federal Census we find John Sanders Beauchamp residing at Michigan, Valley County, Nebraska. With him are his wife "Harrietta" M., and his children Leroy, Bessie, Gussie, Owen, and Edward.

In the 1910 Federal Census we find John Sanders Beauchamp residing at Palisade, Precinct 13, Mesa County, Colorado. With him are his wife and his daughter Augusta ( "Gussie" ).

In the 1920 Federal Census we find John Sanders Beauchamp and his wife Harriett residing in the household of their son John O. Beauchamp at Kansas City, Ward 12, Jackson County, Missouri. With John O. Beauchamp is his wife Ida C. Beauchamp ( born about 1884 in Missouri ).

In the 1930 Federal Census we find John O. Beauchamp living in what appears to be a boarding house or hotel in Kansas City, Ward 6, Jackson County, Missouri, with 2 of his young children. His wife Ida C. Beauchamp is not living with them. We find John Sanders Beauchamp ( now widowed ) residing in the household of his uncle Philander R. Beauchamp ( born about 1880 in Missouri ) at Monroe Precinct, Hamilton County, Nebraska. With Philander are his wife Minnie M. Beauchamp ( born about 1879 in Missouri ) and son Russell L. Beauchamp ( born about 1912 in Nebraska ). This information shows that Harriett M. "Hattie" McPheeters ( John Sanders Beauchamp's wife ) died sometime between 1920 and 1930. John Sanders Beauchamp was still living ( in Hamilton County, Nebraska ) at the time of the 1930 Federal Census, and it isn't known to me at this time when he passed away.

Sincerely, Philip K. Kromer
