There is an excellent biography of Richard Beauchamp, earl of Warwick, by David Brindley, _Richard Beauchamp, Medieval England's Greatest Knight_ [Stroud, 2001].While he was certainly among the "greats," I think, perhaps, that the greatest English knight of all may have been William the Marshall, Henry III's protector.Warwick, to his English contemporaries, was a great military hero and the boon of the French. On the other hand, French historians judge him somewhat differently for his central role in the martyrdom of Joan of Arc.Anyway, the following is a publisher's blurb of Brindley's monograph:
"An avaricious knight errant with a taste for the spectacular’ or ‘one of the few upright and honest figures in these difficult years’? Contemporary views of the most colourful and powerful knight of medieval England varied wildly as they continue to do today. Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, was at the centre of power in the first half of the 15th century and as Henry V’s closest friend, accompanied the English warrior king to France to pursue the English claim to the French crown and win what later became known as the Hundred Years War.Richard Beauchamp had an unrivalled reputation for his skills of the strategy of war and diplomacy and secured Normandy in 1420. He arranged Henry V’s marriage and following the kings death, was appointed Henry VI’s tutor and guardian. In 1431 he encouraged the ecclesiastical court of the Inquisition to try and burn at the stake Joan of Arc. This book is the first modern life of this fascinating medieval chivalric hero."
The book is out of print; however, since it's a recent publication perhaps you can find a copy at Bookfinder.com, I see it's not available from Amazon. The following bookseller seems to have a copy:
