Per Beaty DNA Testing there is a common ancestor of these Families ID 31 is a descendant of William Beaty who died in Saline Co. Mo. ID 19 is a descendants of William Billy Beaty died abt. 1801. ID 55 is a descendants of James and Phoebe Beaty b/1752 thought to be twins. James died in Rutherford Co. Tennessee. ID 65-and 75 are descendants of William Billy Beaty Conclusions: per Baker Cousin; I would guess that ID numbers 19, 31, & 55 have very high percentages for their common most distant ancestors being in a recent period of time. I would recommending asking IDs 65 & 75 to expand their tests to 67 markers to add to the data baseline. From the research notes of Nel Rocklein comes this; John and Margaret Beaty have no apparent connection to the Clinton Co., KY and Fentress Co., TN area. They lived and probably died in Washington Co., VA, as did most of their children. In 1823 their son Alexander M. Beaty sold his portion of a future inheritance involving the Washington Co., VA estate of his grandfather, Thomas Montgomery, to his brothers John Jr. and James. He apparently left Washington Co., VA after that time and died before 1844. Court documents finally dividing the estate in the 1840s frequently refer to "the unknown heirs of Alexander M. Beaty deceased." In the 1950s or 1960s an apparently erroneous conclusion was reached relating to this family. John and Margaret were identified as being the parents of Alexander Beaty, Andrew Beaty and several other Beatys who were early settlers in Cumberland Co., KY and Overton Co., TN. I believe that this association was made based on the assumption that the son of John and Margaret -- Alexander M. Beaty -- was the same Alexander Beaty who settled in Cumberland Co., KY around 1800. Over the years this conclusion has been incorporated into many reports and books written about the early Beatys of Clinton Co., KY and Fentress Co., TN, and has found its way into many family trees. Unfortunately, information from primary sources and documents does not seem to support this conclusion. In addition to Washington Co., VA Court Records, the Revolutionary War pension application of Andrew Beaty and the Indian War Bounty Land applications of Alexander Beaty and his widow Catharine (Travis) Beaty provide several facts that are not consistent with this conclusion. 1) Alexander Beaty and Andrew Beaty are proven to be brothers. There is no suggestion that Alexander M. Beaty had an older brother named Andrew. 2) Alexander M. Beaty of Washington Co. was thought by his family to have died prior to 1844. The death date of Alexander Beaty of Clinton Co. was given by his widow Catharine as March 3, 1851. Although not proven, statements in the Bounty Land applications of Alexander and Catharine Beaty suggest that the father of Andrew and Alexander was Billy Beaty. In several sworn statements included in the applications, Eleanor (Nellie) Meek says she was living at the house of Alexander Beaty about 1794 when he served as a soldier against the Indians under his brother Captain Andy Beaty. She helped fix his clothes before he left and she remained there with his father and mother until he returned home. She continued to live there until she married some years later. In another statement, she says that she "lived at the house of Billy Beaty in Sullivan Co., TN at the time Alexander volunteered and had from a small child." Declarant was born in the state of Pennsylvania in Chester county in Nottingham township. He had at his residence a record of his age which he took from a record made by his older brother, he having taken it from a record made by our father is a small Bible. Afterwards my brother above mentioned transcribing it made the following mistake. Declarant had a twin sister and instead of dating our births on the same day in the transcribed record our brother dated one of them in 1752 and the other in 1753. The mistake was never discovered until after our father’s death and the old Bible was lost or destroyed. No one could then tell whether my birth or my sisters was correctly entered in the transcribed record and never the uncertainty as to whether the declarant is in his seventy ninth or eightieth year. declarant was living as already stated in in Rowan County North Carolina, when he entered the service of the United States and during the whole of the revolutionary. Declarant continued to reside in Rowan county for a number of years after the war, when then removed to Sullivan County East Tennessee and resided in that & Greene county East Tenn. Probably Ten or more years. He then removed to Cumberland County Kentucky, and resided probably twenty years or more, from thence he removed to Rutherford County, Tennessee where he now resides and has resided ever since he first came to this part of the state. Declarant as already stated never entered the service in any other way than as a volunteer. They marched to the Sycamore Shoals o Watauga River where the troops redezvoused and then across the Yellow Mountains and Blue Ridge into North Carolina, with prisoners they had taken. His younger brother, Alexander Beaty, is about 60 years of age and recollects his returning from service. He is informed that Robert Crocket with whom he served is too infirm to be a witness. He was born in Pennsylvania but is not certain of the county. He lived in what was called Washington Co., Va., but when the line was run it became Sullivan Co., Tenn. He continued to live there until 1799 and then moved to his present neighborhood in Tennesseee. 5 May 1834. Fentress Co., Tenn. She was born Abt. 1764, and died 20 Sep 1845 in Saline Co. Missouri. Notes for WILLIAM I. BEATY: Sources; From the research notes of BP2000 ; The proven members of L2B were really living in what became Sullivan Co., TN. In the mid 1700s, however, the area was thought to be in VA, so they turn up in some records in Washington Co., VA. About 1800 the members of L2B settled in what became Fentress Co., TN and Clinton Co., KY. Robert is an unusual name for L2B. Several turn up after the Civil War, but I suspect they might have been namesakes of Robert E. Lee. L2D does have an early Robert born 1794 who is the proven son of William and Sarah (Crockett). That might be the best place to look for a connection with your Robert. I'm not sure what documents are available for this lineage, but there seems to be a connection with L2B. I believe the speculation is that William was a brother of L2B's Andrew and Alexander or considering his age, more probably a nephew. William and Sarah were in KY near the other members of L2B and then by mid 1820 moved to MO and later to TX. If they were living by each other in KY, it would be reasonable to believe they came from the same area near the VA/TN state line and might have also been reflected in Washington Co., VA documents. L2F's James also lived near L2B's Andrew and Alexander in TN/KY before settling in Rutherford Co., TN. His RevWar pension application says he was born in Nottingham twp, Chester Co., PA. Saga of the Beatys, compiled by Burlene Hilton, written by Ruth Hold Payne. Illustrated family history of the some of the Beatys from Fentress County, Tennessee. James is believed to have been the oldest of the group of Beaty brothers who settled along Lick Creek in Clinton County, Kentucky in 1799. This could be theJames that died in Rutherford Co. Tennessee in 1835. James Sells land to William son Robert before Robert migrated to Saline Co. Mo. William Beaty, brother of the 1799 group, was born between 1760 to 1770's. He had two known sons, Robert, who stated that he was a son of William Beaty when he obtained a land grant of 100 acres on Lick Creek in 1825 and William Beaty, another son, born 1805. William Beaty Senior and two sons, Robert and William, went to Saline County, Missouri, about 1830. William Beaty Junior, married Lucinda Beaty, born, 1815 in 1833. Lucinda was a daughter of David Beaty. William and Lucinda lived in Saline County, Missouri until about 1853 but moved to Coryell County, Texas, soon after 1854. At the time it was a very large county encompassing what are now parts of Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Wayne and Clinton Counties. The Walker line further confused things, as some farms which were believed to have been located in Kentucky actually ended up in Tennessee. Cumberland County received its name from the Cumberland River which flows through the county from end to end. William Beaty of Cumberland Co. Ky. came to Saline Co. Missouri by 1830. Pemberton and his wife Lucy Emily( Baker) Pemberton. Genealogy of Richard Scott, By Unk Pemberton Research, 1960 Richard Scott served as a private soldier in the war of 1812. He enlisted in the Cumberland County Kentucky in the Kentucky Militia for a period of six months. He was given two parcels of boundy land, the first in November 1850 and the second on April 16, 1855 in Johnson Co. Rose Hill Missouri Richard Scott Private in Capt. Cross Ky Millitla, War of 1812, widow Jane Beaty Scott (WC #29838 On February 19, 1880 Jane Scott aged 83 and a resident of Rose Hill, Johnson Co., Missouri filed a claim for a widow's persion. She is the widow of Richard Scott who enlisted in Cumberland Co., Ky in the year 1812 in Captain Richard Cross's company, 7th Regiment of Kentucky Militia. Jane Scott gives the following description of her husband at the time of his enlistment; "about 5 ft. 6 in high, blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, a farmer born in North Carolina, Jane's name before marriage was Jane Beaty and she was married to Richard Scott on Sept 26, 1816 by James McDonalds, a minister in Overton Co., Tennessee. Richrad Scott died at Rose Hill, Missouri on February 14, 1857. She futher declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharged from the Army. Viz; Cumberland Co. Kentucky, 2 years; Saline Co.., Mo. 3 years; Howard Co. , Mo. 2 years Saline again 13 years; Johnson Co. Mo. 20 years.' She also states Richard Scott recivied two land warrents one of which dated Jan. 10th. 1852, under act of Congress Sept. 28th 1850. W.L. Wood, age 60 of Johnson Co., Missouri, and L.W. Pemberton, age 60 and a Resident of Johnson Co., Mo. are witnesses on Jane Scott's application. On a separate document, dated Feb. 2, 1880, Jedu Robinson states ''I knew Richard Scott. First met him in the spring of the year 1818, in Cumberland Co., Ky.. Mr. Scott moved to Missouri in the winter of 1818 or 1819, and settled in what is now Saline County and came to Johnson County in 1837. I knew him until his death, but don't remember what year he died in. Mr. Scott was a heavy set, rather low man, blue eyes, dark hair, small hands and feet, and very stout and heavy muscled. I am 68 years old next March and was six years old when I first swa Mr. Scott, and he was then the husband of Jane Scott. On a form dated Feb. 18, 1880 Sarah B. Fisher states " I am the oldest child of Richard and Jane Scott, being 62 years old; the next oldest, living, being Dr. L.A. Scott, of Martin Springs Grayson Co., Texas who is 5 years my junior. My parents states I was born in Cumberland Co. Ky. My earliest recollections date back as far as 1822 when I lived in Saline Co. Mo. In 1837 my parents moved to Johnson Co., Mo.. And here my father lived until his death on the 14 Feb. 1857. That is the date of his death I distinctly remember being present at the time. That the family record, in regard to dates is as accurate copy of the oldest record which was written on the fly leaves of a music book, I also know. It was copied by my sister Emily J. Hutchison now of St. Lewis. " W.L. Wood and L.W. Pemberton ccertify that we have examined the family Bible of Mrs. Jane Scott which bears date 1852 and the records of which has evidence of geunineness and which records the marriage of Richard Scott to Jane Beaty on the 26 Sept., 1816. Also the death of Richard Scott on the 14th Feb. and that to the best of our knowledge as old citizens, that is true." Margaret Scott died of the fever in her forty (43) third year From Unknown Writer of Scott Family Records; John Long Scott our great grandfather was born 1801 Tennessee and came to Missouri in 1821, he was a school teacher and surveyor also the first sheriff of Saline County, at that time the boundries of Saline were Lamine river on the west, and Springfield on the south. He went back to Tenn about 1824 and married Margaret Beatty and returned to Mo. bringing with then five saddle mares, they were six weeks making the journey. I spend two days with Uncle Marion Scott, he told me more about the Scotts than I had known before or since however Uncle Sim told us a lot when he spent two month at our home(Jan & Feb.)1910. I had long talks with Granny E. and learned alot from her.Uncle Marion said that in 1850 when he was sixteen years old his father sent him by horse back to the land officce in Jefferson City with 1050 ?? gold to purchase 1000 acres of land, he was two days going and two days coming back. Part of the town of Sweet Springs stands on it today. Comments; I have never found were John Long Scott ever purchased this 1000 acres of land. These people are passing away as the years go by, and the last to be earsed from this list in this comminity is Grandpa Scott, familiarly called "Uncle Sim". He had been a resident of Bosque county 45 or 50 years, until just recently he had made his home with his son, Babe Scott, near Stephenville, at which place he died on last Tuesday morning and was buried here Wednesday afternoon. The funeral service was held in the Baptist church and was conducted by his old friend, Rev. L.W. Dean in the presence of a large congregation, some of whom had been acquainted with the deceased for more than forty years. Just a few months ago his wife died and was interred in the Riverside Cemetery here and beside her Uncle Sim was laid to rest on the above date. He leaves a number of children, but we are not advised as to their names or places of residence. Parker, Hico, Texas December 26, 1914, at 6;30 a.m. after a brief illness, having been paralyzed a little over two years and partly recovered from the attack, but received the second attack on Wednesday before her death on Saturday morning. She had just passed her 77 mile stone, She was married to Bro. Immediately after the marriage, she came with her husband to Texas, locating near Iredell, where she lived most of her life. She was on the train with her husband when she received the stroke of paralysis that caused her death. She made a profession of religion when quite young and joined the Spring Creek Baptist Church near Iredell, and lived a devoted member until her home going, so I was told by those who knew her best. She was a true Christian, a loving mother and a faithful wife. More About FRANCES ANN KESTER: Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Iredell, Texas iv. SAMUEL SCOTT, b. 22 Oct 1830, Saline Co. Missouri. v. WILLIAM TRAVIS3 BEATY (ALEXANDER2, WILLIAM1) was born 27 Oct 1804 in Cumberland County, Kentucky, and died 06 Dec 1897 in Henry Co. Missouri. He married SALLIE PINNELL 25 Feb 1836 in Henry Co. Missouri. She was born 14 Dec 1818 in Virginia, and died 23 May 1876 in Henry Co. Missouri. Notes for WILLIAM TRAVIS BEATY: BEATY, William T. source: 1883 History of Henry Missouri , National Historical Co., pg: 794 --- William T. Beaty, a pioneer citizen of Henry County, was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, October 27, 1804. His father, Alexander Beaty, was a native of Virginia, and his mother, whose maiden name was Catherine Travis, came originally from Maryland. The former served in the revolutionary war. He removed to Kentucky at an early day and was one of the first settlers of Cumberland County. William T. was reared on a farm, and while young learned the gunsmith's trade. In 1830 he came to Missouri and located first in Saline County, and worked at his trade five years. removing to Henry County in 1835. He was one of the first settlers here, and soon entered land and improved the farm where he now resides. Mr. Beaty was married in this county February 25, 1836, to Miss Sallie Pinnell, a native of Virginia and a daughter of F. A. Pinnell. They reared a family of three children, all of whom are married and reside in Henry County. Mrs. Beaty died May 23, 1876. Clinton MO - W. T. Beaty departed this life at the home of his son-in-law, J. A. Beaty, two and one-half miles southwest of Calhoun, December 6, 1897. Uncle Billy was born in Cumberland County, Ky. October 27, 1804 and grew to manhood on his father's farm. After attaining his majority, he entered life as a gunsmith and plied his vocation with vigor and determination. In 1830, he went from Kentucky to Illinois. while there, he heard Lorenzo Dow preach in interesting sermon, standing in a wagon bed. In October of the same year, he went to saline County, Mo. where he lived until 1833, when he moved to Henry. He worked here at the gunsmith trade and followed farming and stock raising. Married Feb. 25, 1836 to Sally Pinnell, who fell asleep in Jesus May 23, 1876. In 1846, he united with the M. E. Church South, and was always ready and willing to give advice, especially to those who were out of Christ. He was so patient during his last few months of suffering; surely nothing but grace could make him uncomplainingly bow to the will of god. Oh, how he will be missed at his home, but how sweet rest must be to him. Uncle Billy leaves three daughters, Mrs. T. S. Taylor, Mrs. J. Showalter and Mrs. J. A. Beaty; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Children of WILLIAM BEATY and SALLIE PINNELL are: i. SARAH BELL4 BEATY, b. Abt. 1838. ii. SUSAN JANE BEATY, b. 03 Mar 1842, Henry Co. Missouri; d. 18 May 1935, Missouri; m. JOHN ALEXANDER BEATY; b. 24 Aug 1838, Cumberland Co. Virginia; d. 06 Feb 1908, Henry Co. Missouri. Notes for SUSAN JANE BEATY: bur: Calhoun Cemetery, Tebo Twp, Henry Co, MO Clinton, MO - Mrs. Sue Beaty of Calhoun Passes To Reward After a Lifetime of Service - The exemplary life of a pioneer woman whose deeds will be told from generation to generation as those worthy of emulation came to a close at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, May 18, when Mrs. Sue Beaty of Calhoun closed her eyes in the last long sleep. Her health and been failing for some time and the last two weeks she became much frailer until life on this earth ended and a new life began. In 1914 she fell in a street car at Kansas City, and since then she walked on crutches, but was ever patient through all her suffering and appreciated the love and care that was hers. Susan Jane Beaty was born March 3, 1842, at the beginning of the great movement westward to untried lands. Her father, Uncle Billy Beaty, was a Kentuckian who came to Missouri on horseback and settled in saline county, but he was seeking timberland and came to Henry county after being in Missouri two years. South of Calhoun about 2 1/2 miles he settled with his wife and it was here that their daughter, Susan Jane, was born. Susan Jane Beaty's grandfather Pinnell was the first judge of Henry Co. She was 6 months old when the family moved into a new weather boarded log house, the same historic old home which has braved the onslaught of every element for more than 92 years and was occupied for several years by a son, Sam Beaty and his wife. Uncle Billy Beaty died in 1897 at the age of 93, the same age that this daughter was at her death. Schooling was secured in a log schoolhouse with split log benches held up by wooden pegs for seats, a puncheon floor and clapboard doors. Heat came from a large fireplace and school started early in the morning and lasted until dark during the winter months for all hands were needed during the planting and growing seasons. Susan Jane Beaty walked 2 1/2 miles to school each day, going across the creek on a log bridge, but when she was 12 a sickness which resulted in an operation left her slightly crippled. Because she must walk on crutches, she was sent to the old Academy to finish her education. Miss Sue Beaty was united in marriage to J. A. Beaty at her home November 14, 1867, when she was 25. She went to her husband's farm south of her father's farm where they lived until 1903, then went to Calhoun to live. In her 93 years of life, Mrs. Beaty lived in three houses. Mrs. Beaty was an exceptional woman, schooled to bear life's troubles through her early training as a pioneer daughter of the county. Her health remained unusually good until the last few months of her life, and her alert, eager intelligence never failed, delighting the friends who called on her. Her birthday was an event each year when friends from all over the county and state called to chat with her a few minutes and wish her happiness. She won friends with her naturally cheerful friendliness and she held them with her unceasing loyalty and willingness to help them in anything that lay within her abilities. She was a wonderful character, a lovely mother, devoted in her friendship, generous in her sympathy, ready in her helpfulness of every need. She made for herself a place of deep and lasting esteem in her community. She was an inspiration to both young and old. Her sunny smile, her cherry greeting, her kindly attitude and loving words will be missed by all who knew her. In young girlhood, Mrs. Beaty was converted to the Christian faith and for many years she was one of the most beloved and active members of the M. E. Church South at Calhoun. She labored willingly for her Master, furthering His Kingdom in every way and herself setting an example for others to follow in her daily life of the unselfish service. She loved the Bible and its truths, the church and its works, devoting her life to active work until her health failed. Nothing she enjoyed more than having the Bible read to her and being visited by her own pastor and also the pastors of other churches. She was reared in a Christian home - a home for all the preachers and many religious services. Preaching and prayer meetings were held in her father's home. After Mrs. Beaty was married her home was always open to preachers of every denomination. Mrs. Beaty was the oldest resident of Calhoun at her death. Her husband died February 6, 1908, and their oldest son, Sam, died December 20, 1933. Three children of the six born to their union survive, and they have given her every tender care during her sunset years. Miss Sallie, who lives at the home in Calhoun, gave her devoted companionship and never left her side except when necessary. Jess Beaty lives on the old homestead, and Mrs. Della Hendrix is in Kansas City. There is one grandchild, Miss Jewell Hendrix, who was devoted to her grandmother and beloved by Mrs. Beaty, as she has been in the Beaty home since childhood and found real mother love in the care of Mrs. Beaty. Last services were held Monday at her church in Calhoun. The remains were laid to rest in the Calhoun cemetery. There were many beautiful flowers and the church was filled with sorrowing friends and relatives who came to pay their last earthly tribute to one whom they dearly loved. Notes for JOHN ALEXANDER BEATY: bur: Calhoun Cemetery, Tebo Twp, Henry Co, MO Clinton MO, Feb 22 1908 - John A. Beaty, who was born in Cumberland County, Ky., August 24, 1838, died February 6, 1908, aged 69. He came to the state in February 1865 and married Miss Susan Beaty, November 14, 1867. Three daughters and three sons were born, four surviving, also his loving wife and little granddaughter, Jewel. Bro. Beaty joined the M. E. Church, South, several years ago under the ministry of Brother Strong. iii. MARY ANN BEATY, b. Abt. 1846. iv. CATHERINE BEATY, b. Jun 1839, Henry Co. Missouri; d. 26 Oct 1842, Henry Co. Missouri.
