James & Matilda Beaty, GA>AL>LA>TX

James & his wife Matilda Beaty ("Mattie") were both born in GA.

They probably married about 1850 or just before, maybe in Gwinnett County GA.

Four of their (6 or 7) children lived to adulthood: James A., Wiley Eugene, Mary Elizabeth, & Martha (Mattie, "Lady Beaty"). Mary, who died in her early twenties, never married. They were all born in AL.

I'm interested in finding the documentation to prove, what Matilda's last name was. Probably a record of marriage.

They are listed as living in Caddo Parish, LA in 1860, as James & Mattie Batey. Most of the 1860 Census info about them is wrong, & seems to have come from their neighbors, four men.

James served in the Confederacy in the Civil War, returned home, died before 1870, & is buried at Greenwood, LA, Caddo Parish. I'm still trying to find a reliable source of information, to get more of his story. [Some people remembered him, as being called "Gene", so his middle name might have been Eugene.]

Matilda married twice more: Dempsey Morris, with whom she moved to Panola County TX. After he died, she married Noah Washington Gillaspie, & continued to live in Panola County, TX.

Matilda, Morris & Gillaspie, & Matilda's children & spouses, are buried at Carthage/Old-City/Oddfellow Cemetery in Panola County.
