Hoot mon, Cindy, let me say that William Beatty (the one and the same) was my great-grandfather. I have a copy of his picture and obit which is entitled "Old Soldier Is Called By Death." He died in Youngstown, Ohio at the age of 77. Was born in Port Glasccow, Scotland on August 26, 1837 and coam e to this country in 1849. His first wife was MIss Emily J. George, who died 21 years earlier than William. Thus William died around 1914. His obit goes on to say that the following children were born of that union: George, of Niles, Ohio; Mrs. Fred Beebe of Ludington, Mich.; Samuel J, of Saginaw; and, Mrs. Caroline Cargill, Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Eldridge (my grandmother), Thomas and Frank H. of Youngstown. In 1895, William married Anna Van Wingerden who survived (at that time). I will send you more later but just had eye surgery 10 days ago and have trouble reading the fine print.
I am also very interested in finding more about William Beatty's Scotland ancestry and thank you for letting me know he was a junior. He appeared to be not Church of England since he was apparently a lifelong member of the Central Christian Church, in Youngstown and elsewhere. Again, my regrets at the briefness of this note but will add more later. Your very distant but not unfriendly cousin, many times removed.
Jerry Eldridge, Los Gatos, CA.
