Hi Tom, I am a descendant of Martin Beaty & Lucy Lamphier through their daughter Emma Pauline and Frank B Schmidt. I have been hot on this man's trail, too. The 1900 US Census, Nebraska, Banner Co, ED 1, page 58 indicates his birth as Feb 1823. An obituary in the Gering Courier, December 18, 1914 stated that Martin had died in Nebraska in 1904. Another obituary for another family member, stated he died in Missouri. I have written to both states and no record of death exists. I was hoping to get some kind of information regarding parents from the death certificate. Back to square one! I don't know if this helps you. If you e-mail me & let me know you got this. I'll keep you posted on any finds. Meanwhile, I am also trying to find out information on Lucy Ann's parents and exactly when and where Lucy and Martin were married. Lucy's obit stated she was married in 1846 in Illinois, but I want to button this down tighter. I have found a reference to Norman Lamphier as a signer of a petition to President Andrew Jackson, the Fulton County Petition of 1831, from the Illinois State Genealogy Society Quarterly, vol II:2, Summer 1970, pp 70-74, article "Land Records in the Illinois State Archives". I have been unable to find anything else. I hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Sherrie Nielsen
