I have been searching for information on my gr grandfather HUGH
CEPHAS. BEATTY b.1854 in Butler Co., PA. He married ELLA UBER b 1863, also
from PA.
My grandfather DAVID BEATTY didn't know much about his dad Hugh. I
have contacted all but one living grandchild of HUGH BEATTY and none of
them remember their father David sharing any information about Hugh, other
than he worked for the railroad as a very young man before getting into
farming.
This past summer I located the last grandchild, CLAYTON and he said
that as a young boy he lived with Hugh a couple of weeks each summer due to
some asthma problems. He remembers Hugh saying that when coming to Kansas
in 1879, his parents were killed and the children were farmed out to those
who were also traveling together. Clayton told me that Hugh often wondered
what happened to his brothers and sisters.
Some wonderful Beatty's online have been helping me, and for awhile I
thought Hugh might be from the Beatty/McVey family, but have not been able
to prove it. If you are a McVey, do you have Hugh in your family group? I
know there is a Thomas Hugh, but that's not him.
What I have come to find out through four years of searching is this:
HUGH CEPHAS BEATTY was born April 25, 1854, thought to be Butler Co. He
went west in 1879 with the Thomas and Savilla Gill family. He was listed as
a nephew. I have loads of information from about 1879 onward.
I am a member of the BEATTY 2000 list group. Lineage #58
