Hello:I too am searching for BEATTY in western PA. HUGH CEPHAS BEATTY was born April 25, 1854, thought to be Butler Co. He went west in 1879 with the Thomas M. GILL family (wife Savilla) and was listed as a nephew in the 1880 census for Osage Co., KS. Clayton Beatty, last living grandson of HUGH, remembers him saying that his parents were killed and the children were farmed out to other family members. Clayton told me that Hugh often wondered what happened to his brothers and sisters. Last week I started going through every single GILL family I could find in 1870 census for Slippery Rock, Butler Co., and I found HUGH as a 16 year old, living with HIRAM GILL, brother to Thomas M. GILL. I could find no Hiram GILL in the 1860 census, but did find Hiram as a 6 yr old in the 1850 census for Slippery Rock. Nowhere could I find HUGH BEATTY. Where is he for 1860 census and with what family? 1870 Slippery Rock., Butler Co.PA House #103 GILL, David 70 Martha 63 (her maiden name was McKee) Martha E. 23 Martha J. 9 Willson 4 (this name was very hard to read, could have been Wilson) Willson, Erwin 2 (hard to read) House #107 GILL, Hiram 25 Elizabeth 23 Anna 1 HUGH * 16 (This is Hugh Cephas BEATTY) * Morehead,Martha 14 House #108 GILL, T.M. 38 Savilla 31 (Her maiden name is MOREHEAD) Robert 10 James S. 9 Harriett 7 Martha 5 Sarah H. 2 Morehead, Elnora 18 (First name hard to read) Stoner, Jerrerson 19 (last name hard to read) Do you have a BEATTY, in the 1860 census for PA, with a 6 yr old son Hugh? Do you have a BEATTY married to a MOREHEAD about 1844-1854? I have been in correspondence with the BEATTY/McVEY researchers, but at present, we have not been able to tie my HUGH BEATTY with this family. Thanks, Karen Beatty Lineage #58
