Julia Bowes, daughter of Irish natives Timothy Bowes & Isabella Beatty, was born July 5, 1887 in Leeds, Ontario (according to her birth record which you must already have). You have also found this family in a number of census records, and you know that Julia was age 6 in Ontario's 1891 census, living in New York with her family in 1900, and and age 22 in the 1911 census in Kingston, Frontenac County, when her mother Isabella was a widow, age 55, born Ireland. The Bowes were Catholic. Their religion makes a great difference in how you would research further back in Ireland and find more about the Beattys (or Bowes, for that matter). If Isabella's Beatty parents were Protestant, then you should look in different sources. Isabella Beatty was Timothy Bowes' second wife (20 years younger than he was). She died in 1925 in Kingston, and her death certificate gives her birth as April 12, 1851 in Dublin, Ireland, and her parents as Robert Beatty and Isabella Drere (Drew?). She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Kingston. However, your Ancestry.com tree (if "Corinne Furness" is you), lists Isabella's parents as "Joseph Milton Beatty Sr." and "Matilda Black." Another record must show that information, and I do see that a Joseph Beatty came to Ontario from Ireland (in census records). Perhaps Isabella's parents' names are listed on her marriage to Timothy Bowes? Which would be a more accurate record than her death certificate. Without more information on your grandmother, or a lady named "Julia Bowes" that might be your grandmother (and not knowing why this is questionable), it's difficult to help you very much more with the connection to Timothy Bowes and Isabella Beatty. Do you KNOW that your grandmother is a Julia Bowes born in Canada, and you found a Julia of the right age to be her in the Ontario census households of Timothy & Isabella Bowes? Or, have you identified your grandmother Julia in New York records such as censuses, marriage and death records, but you're not sure if she was a Bowes? Do available records suggest or state her full maiden name and a date and place of birth? Many variables in your search, and all the answers affect how other people might help you successfully!
