Will be glad to share further information on the BEATTYS of Co. Tyrone: Joseph HADDEN (born c. 1800 - died 1888) and wife Jane BEATTY/BEATTIE (born c. 1808-1810 - died 1888) lived at Lough Park, Goland townland, Carnteel parish, Co. Tyrone. They baptised their children at the Ballygawley Presbyterian church, where Joseph Hadden served as an elder, and their deaths are recorded there. Jane Beatty Hadden's BEATTY parents were still living in 1866 with two unmarried daughters in their household, according to family letters of that time. Mr. Beatty was then age 84 (born about 1782), described as a "hale hearty nice old gentleman of the old school." Mr. Beatty and his wife probably married c. 1805-1809, with daughter Jane born c. 1808-1810. They had 2 other unmarried daughters still living in 1866 (probably born c. 1805-1830), a son James, and probably other children whose family details I haven't yet researched. Son James was probably born before 1830; he was an adult with children born in the 1860s-1870s, since he had a daughter who married in 1889 (see Presbyterian biographical records below). His residence at that time appears to have been Ballymena. The Beattys' great-granddaughter Anne Hadden WILLIAMSON (daughter of James HADDEN and Annie CAULDWELL of Lough Park) wrote in 1935: "My grandmother's maiden name was Beattie. The family lived at Mullinahunch near Dungannon about 6 or 7 miles from Ballygawley." -- "Mrs. Martin Worthington (great-aunt Eliza Jane Hadden Worthington) ... lived beside my gt. grandmother Beattie at Mullinahunch. The two houses were only a few yards distant from each other. Passing along the main road from Ballygawley to Dungannon, they are a short distance from the main road at Mullinahunch Bridge. The Ewings must have been connected on my grandmother's side. Turning to the right at that bridge takes one to Greystones where the Ewings live." I don't know yet how the EWINGS are related (as described by Anne Hadden Williamson) and would like to discover their BEATTY or HADDEN connection as well. Mulnahunch is in Killeeshill parish, and in Griffith's Valuation the only Beatty/Beattie listings at Mulnahunch are David BEATTY and John BEATTY. One of these men was probably Jane Beatty's father, the "hale hearty nice old gentleman" of 1866. The GRO death registration in 1872 of a "David Beatty," age 90, Dungannon district, Vol. 16, page 381, may be this man; I haven't yet obtained a copy of the original death certificate for further details. One of "old" Mr. Beatty's granddaughters, Sally (Margaret) Beattie, married Rev. Charles Davey, Minister of the Fisherwick Presbyterian Church. Anne Hadden Williamson wrote in 1935: "... a distant cousin who lived in Belfast is Professor Davey, he teaches or lectures at Queen's College -- his mother was a Miss Beattie and his late father was the Rev. Chas. Davey, a minister of Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, Belfast." Anne further wrote in 1954: "Last year's Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presby. Church is a friend of ours. His mother Sally Beattie was a cousin of father's. He is a very clever man. His father was the Rev. Charles Davey of Belfast." From ministers' biographies sent by the Presbyterian Church office in Belfast: "DAVEY, Charles: son of Charles Davey, Leefield, Carrickfergus; born 9 April 1857; educ. QCB, ACB, Westminster, London BA (RUI) 1884; lic London pres 11 May 1880, rec Carrickfergus 1887; ord. 1 Ballymena 16 August 1887, resigned 8 December 1891; inst. St. Enoch's, Belfast 7 January 1892, resigned 14 August 1900; inst Fisherwick, Belfast 7 Sept 1900; DD(PTFI) 1917; married 22 January 1889 Margaret, daughter of James Beatty, Ballymena; Prin. J.E. Davey, ACB, a son; died 26 March 1919." "DAVEY, James Ernest (Rev.) Born 1890 at Ballymena, Co. Antrim, son of Rev. Charles Davey; educ at King's College, Cambridge (BA Camb 1912, MA Camb 1916); licensed by Presbytery of Belfast, May 1916; ordained as Professor of Church History at Assembly's College, Belfast, 10 September 1917; married 1927 Georgiana, daughter of Dr. Henry O'Neill, Belfast; appointed Principal of Assembly's College June 1942; Moderator of General Assembly 1953; died 17 December 1960." I've gathered notes on various Beattys in the southern Co. Tyrone area from Freeholders records, Tithe Applotments, Griffith's Valuation, church registers and other sources but they're a collateral line, not my direct ancestors (that I know of) and I haven't followed up with more extensive research. I'd be glad to find other researchers who may be connected to the Beattys of Mulnahunch/ Killeshill parish and Ballymena, and try to put individuals and families in the right places in our family trees. - Annie Crenshaw, P.
