YDNA tested (1st YDNA test for BP line-05)
We now have results for John on all the 37 markers offered by FTDNA. Earlier
I had noticed that John's 12-marker results exactly matched those of Calvin
L-59, and considered that to be a good predicter. I didn't
report that John, at 12 markers was only one step away from 4 others. The
13-25 marker results changed the picture; Calvin and John have 3
disagreements. On the other hand ID50 who was one off at 1-12 had a perfect
match at 13-25. Previously I had called ID50 Michele, but have now changed
the records to show F Russell as the name of the testee. This family is not
yet a member of BP2000. Both John and F Russell have the full 37 marker results, and there are 2 more differences at markers 26-37. The FTDNATiP report says that there is a 90% chance of a common ancestor in 400 years. I have added John W to Group J with F Russell. The reference haplotype for Group J still is that of F Russell. Until we find
another member of this group the choice of reference is arbitrary.

The following is taken from her handwritten account of her life:
" In 1918 the family moved to a farm near Octonto, Wisconsin, where Madelyn attended a small nearby rural school for three years and a grade school in Oconto for one year. The seventh grade was attended in 1924-5 in Iron Mountain, Mich, Manilla, Iowa, and Oconto Wis. as the family spent part of that year in Michigan, returning then to Oconto. In 1929 the family returned to the farm in Iowa, where Madelyn graduated from high school in 1930 (at age 15), and completed the normal training course the following year (to qualify to teach). The year 1931-2 and 1932-3 were spent at Iowa State College (Ames), the Industrial Science Division. Then with the Depression to contend with Madelyn took a Civil Service job with the Agricultural Corn-Hog program in Shelby County Iowa, remaining until Jul 31, 1934. Two more years at Iowa State College, and a B. S. Degree, major in Mathematics, in June 1936. After a few weeks with an Insurance Company in Des Moines, she secured a secretarial position at Iowa State College.

Madelyn went back to work in Pender to help put her children through college. She was employed as a social case worker with the state welfare office, with her clientel being the Indians of the Omaha and Winnebago Indian reservations. She always took a personal interest in their welfare, and, for the most part, the Indians enjoyed knowing her as a friend. After Glen died, she sold the home in Pender at 624 Logan Street, and moved to Chatsworth, California, where she lived independently until after the January, 1994 earthquake. She then moved to an assisted care facility for the last five months of her life. Madelyn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church in Pender. She later transferred her church membership to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed travel, reading, and keeping up with family activities. She once remarked that the highlight of her life was flying to Guam in 1986 to visit with Larry and his family, where Larry was stationed with the U. S. Air Force. She suffered severe rheumatoid arthritis all her adult life, and bore the pain stoically. In her last months, she had developed macular degeneration, which limited her reading. Her last hour was spent with her son, Tom, who had come to have dinner with her. He said that he would see her tomorrow, and she replied, Well, maybe not. Tom left, she got up to go to the information desk, and collapsed and died within 10 minutes. Her cause of death listed on her death certificate was cardiopulmonary arrest, due to cardiac arrhythmia due to coronary artery disease due to hypertension. Her remains were cremated and scattered at sea three miles off Newport Beach Coastline in Orange County, California. Her son Tom arranged for her marker to be placed next to Glen' s grave at Rose Hill Cemetery, one mile southwest of Pender, Nebraska.

AITKIN -- Eileen T. Pierce, 80, Aitkin, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
She was born April 27, 1919, at Wamego, Kan., to Oliver and Eva (Bonstein) Edwards. She attended school at Wamego. She married Louis J. Pierce on Nov. 9, 1938, at Goldendale, Wash. They spent their early years in Wamego, moving to Topeka, Kan. in 1949. She worked in Topeka a the ATSF Railway headquarters as a keypunch operator. She also worked in St. Paul for the Great Northern Railway for a short time. She and her family moved to Aitkin in 1957 where she worked at the turkey plant, the telephone company and the Aitkin County Courthouse. For a few years in mid 1960s, she and her husband ran the Hanging Kettle Resort on the east side of Hanging Kettle Lake.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Nyberg, Aitkin, Sharon Shultz, Blaine; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Her husband died earlier.
Private family services will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.

Note from my sister Lolita G. Swift as told by our Mother.
Sometime between the age of 16 when she left home and the age of 19 when she married our father: Mom was hired by Hallmark cards as an artist, but qwuit after one week; they had puit her into a room by herself and she couldn't think of anything to draw.
She also auditioned for a chorus line.. Mom was so flat chested she wanting to make a good impression stuffed her bra with tissue and while she was dancing the tissue came flying out, She didn't get the job..
Going back in time to when Mom was in school She was accepted and attended the first school in Oklahoma for advanced studies. It was called a class for gifted students.
1959/1960 She was president of the Grays Harbor (Washington State) Chapterof young Democrats. She met John F. and Jacky Kennedy, while he was in Washington state campaining.
She moved to San Jose, CA in about 1960 where she worked at Hewlett- Packard Company doing final engraving on instruments. She bought a house in San Jose, CA, where she lived until about 1971. Mother then became to ill to work and moved to McCleary, WA. During 1971/1972 sometime she took a trip to Spain with the funds from the sale of her home. She took her sister Helen Murray with her.
