I think your red-bearded Scots relative from Birkenhead was Charles Beattie and came from Kircudbrightshire.

I can add more detail if you wish but one or two more details about possible ages; possible females would help to establish whether Charles is yours.

You say you are just starting. Do you have access to any of the census returns,birth, marriage and death indexes etc.? Please get in touch directly if you wish. I'm not related but if I can help I will.
